The Mating of Michael

The Mating of Michael by Eli Easton

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I been thinking really hard about rating this one. Two ore three stars, I ended on three starts because I really do believe it’s an amazing and beautiful story.

Michael is a sex surrogate (we’ll get back to that in a minute) and a nurse. James is a writer though somewhat failing you could say. He hasn’t been writing anything good in years and is still hung up on his first publication witch was very succesfull. James has polio and is bound to a wheelchair and extremely self conscious. James agrees to do a book signing where the two meets for the first time. Michale being shy (you don’t really see that much in the book, but the author says that he is). James is the affection of Michal and with a bit of help the two are brought together. But with that also the drama.

Now I loved the story, I really did, I think it’s well done and the story line is amazing, but:

1) Michael is a nurse. You do NOT and I repeat you do not disclose who your patients are. I don’t know the American law on this, but I’m pretty sure that it’s a breach of confidentiality it you tell their names and what’s wrong with them. Now if you did that with a partner you have been with for years I could understand that, but they only just met, so that’s a no go.

2) The sex surrogate – sorry I don’t get it. I actually had to Google it to find out if it was real. Call it with you want, but to me it just glorified prostitution. Maybe I shouldn’t fault the author, maybe I’m just being a prude, it just doesn’t set well with me.

3) Cheating. It’s kind of funny how some people try to justify cheating. No you and I may not be in a relationship, yet, but if this is going anywhere you don’t sleep with others. When Michale does his surrogate “work” and is not telling James about it, sorry guys that’s cheating to me. You can tell me a millon times it’s not, but unless you talk about it and decide on an open relationship it is cheating to me and I just can’t let that go.

I wold have liked a bit more drama with Jame’s mother, it was over a bit too fast, what she did is not easy forgiven.

The story is great and I really and truly loved both characters, but see above why it only got three stars.

The Enlightenment of Daniel

The Enlightenment of Daniel by Eli Easton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I actually finished all three books in the series before writing this review. This one is my absolute favourite. A beautiful lovestory between two men, Nick and Daniel who has known each other for a lot of years – since high school.

Nick has had a secret crush on Daniel since high school, but he got over it and moved on. He married his wife and lived in a loveless marriage for years but with two beautiful kids. Daniel himself was married but now divorced. While Nick knows he’s bisexual, Daniel has a HALLIJUA I’M GAY moment – he’s never been with a man and has never even thought about it, but with Nick that changes. They own a company together, runned perfectly with their different personas.

The story is so beautiful and well written. I love Daniel and his caring heart not just for Nick but for the kids as well. He such a great guy. There’s no doubt that Nick is marked by his mariage and his wife, to me most of the time he come out as spineless, I would have liked for him to have a bit more back bone especially with his daughter, it just hurts to see how she is treated.

The flow of the story is great, and you get to revisit some of the characters from book one in the series – kind of makes it complete being a part of a series. It has good parts and sad parts and even kind of a wauuu part (you’ll need to read it to know what I’m talking about). Love every part of it.
